At the Théâtre du Châtelet, the celebration quickly turned sour for the Yamal family. Mounir Nasraoui, father of young Lamine Yamal, had high hopes that his son would leave Paris with the Ballon d’Or 2025 in hand.
However, the prestigious award went to Ousmane Dembélé, who had an outstanding season with 35 goals, 16 assists, and a remarkable five-goal game with PSG. His performance was undeniable, securing him the top honor.
In disbelief, Nasraoui expressed his frustration on El Chiringuito, calling it a blatant injustice: “This isn’t theft, but a moral wrong. Lamine is, by far, the best player in the world.” He emphasized, “Not just because he’s my son. He has no rival. Something very strange has happened here.”
Lamine Yamal Keeps His Cool
In contrast to the outcry, Lamine Yamal maintained his composure. After congratulating Dembélé, he focused on the future, taking solace in winning his second consecutive Kopa Trophy, beating out Désiré Doué. “I will keep working to earn more titles,” he stated simply.
"LAMINE YAMAL EST LE MEILLEUR JOUEUR DU MONDE ET DE LOIN !
Il s'est passé quelque chose de très étrange…"

Vincent Garcia, head of France Football, also weighed in, dismissing any controversy surrounding the decision. “There was no suspense; Dembélé won by a landslide,” he remarked to L’Équipe, reinforcing the legitimacy of the choice.
