Tensions are rising between Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid over the management of his injury. The club’s medical staff believes the French striker could return in around three weeks, with the goal of making him available for the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Manchester City. Among journalists as well, the atmosphere is becoming increasingly tense.
The Mbappé situation is stirring debate across Spain. The player’s entourage does not want him to return too quickly, considering it too risky. With fewer than 100 days before the World Cup, Mbappé’s camp prefers to avoid any unnecessary risk and refuses to rush his comeback in order to preserve his condition for the global tournament.
Disagreement Over Injury Recovery Sparks Criticism
This disagreement is creating internal tension: Real Madrid wants to rely on its star for a crucial European clash, while Mbappé is prioritizing a cautious recovery ahead of the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Mbappé returned to France on Monday to obtain another diagnosis for his knee injury. The French international striker could not attend his teammates’ match against Getafe that same evening, which ended in a 1–0 defeat. Manu Carreño, a prominent journalist from Cadena Ser, took the opportunity to strongly criticize him.
“One thing is what you are, another is what you appear to be. If you are injured, the normal thing is to be at the match. Having a drink in Paris while your team is playing… it’s a question of commitment and image. Someone who claims to be the leader of a sporting project — I’m not sure the best image is being out celebrating, even if you’re injured and unable to play.”
