Luka Modric was officially unveiled as a new AC Milan player on Monday, and the Croatian legend didn’t hold back when speaking about his ambitions.
After 13 seasons at Real Madrid, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner is ready to help bring Milan back to the top: “I spent 13 years at the biggest club in the world, and now I’m joining a club that used to be what Real Madrid is today. Milan lost that along the way. It needs to fight to get it back.”
Clear-minded and competitive, Modric laid out his expectations: “We can’t be satisfied with just qualifying for the Champions League. Milan has to fight for trophies. That’s my goal, and it should be the goal for everyone at the club.” At the same time, he emphasized humility and hard work: “It’s about building a strong team. I want to bring that mindset.”
Is this his final chapter? “I don’t know, it’s too early to say”
Now 39, Modric is preparing for a new tactical challenge in Serie A: “I’ve been following the league. It’s very organized tactically and different from La Liga. I’ll need to adapt quickly.”
Is this his final chapter? “I don’t know, it’s too early to say. My goal is to play in the World Cup next year, but first we have to qualify. I’m focused on the present, on giving my all for Milan. The future will come later.”
One of football’s greatest midfielders is ready for one last big challenge.
