Kylian Mbappé blew up in Elche , and now we know why. After Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw, the French striker sprinted toward the referee, furious that the final whistle was blown without adding extra stoppage time. The result? A yellow card… even though the game was already over.
Booked after the final whistle, yes, really. It happened Sunday night, and while it looked bizarre, the referee justified it in his report, stating Mbappé was punished “for protesting ostentatiously after the end of the match while still on the pitch.”
It’s already Mbappé’s third yellow card of the season in La Liga, after earlier bookings against Osasuna and Real Sociedad.
Mbappé close to suspension
One more caution, and he’ll be at risk of a ban. Adding to the frustration: Mbappé failed to score for the second match in a row, his worst run of the season. He still delivered the assist for Bellingham’s equaliser and remains La Liga’s top scorer with 13 goals, but he left the Martínez Valero absolutely fuming.
