Destiny could have taken a very different turn. Now a player for Bayer Leverkusen, Eliesse Ben Seghir almost wore the Olympique de Marseille jersey. A missed choice, a deep regret… to the point of tears. The young Moroccan winger recently looked back candidly on this defining moment in his career.

Before breaking out at AS Monaco, Ben Seghir was very close to signing with OM. The move never materialized, and it left a lasting mark on him. “I cried when I was told I wasn’t going to OM,” he admitted openly, a powerful and emotional confession that shows how real the dream once was.

A Missed Move That Still Hurts

Why did the deal fall through? The player explains it with clarity: a family decision. “My family wanted security above all and thought Marseille wasn’t the best place for me to develop,” he said. Too young at the time, Ben Seghir followed their advice… not without regret.
