Lionel Messi welcomes a major new reinforcement at Inter Miami: the best goalkeeper in MLS joins the Florida franchise.
Inter Miami CF has officially announced the signing of Canadian goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair through the end of the 2026 Major League Soccer season, with an option for the 2027 campaign (June 2027). It is a significant addition for Lionel Messi’s squad, which strengthens with one of the top goalkeepers in North American soccer.
A Top MLS Goalkeeper Joins Miami
At 28 years old, St. Clair is coming off an outstanding season with Minnesota United, crowned MLS Goalkeeper of the Year 2025. A cornerstone of the Loons, he led them to a second consecutive Western Conference semifinal in 2024 and 2025. A two-time MLS All-Star (2022, 2025) and MVP of the 2022 All-Star Game, he has established himself as a benchmark at his position.
During the 2025 season, St. Clair dominated all key statistics: best save percentage in the league (77.93%), highest number of saves (113), 10 clean sheets in 30 matches, and an average of one goal conceded per game, while consistently staying above a 75% save rate. No other goalkeeper matched such standards that season.
Developed in Canada before playing at the University of Maryland, St. Clair was selected seventh overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, climbed the ranks through the USL, and ultimately became a mainstay at Minnesota.
A Canadian international since 2021 with 18 caps, he is expected to play a key role for Canada ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Arriving in Miami as a free agent after his contract expired, his mission is clear: secure the back line and bring elite-level reliability to an ambitious team built around Messi.
