While his name had been strongly linked with FC Barcelona, Bernardo Silva now appears set to join Real Madrid instead. The 31-year-old Portuguese attacking midfielder, whose contract with Manchester City has come to an end, is reportedly closing in on a move to the Spanish giants.
In a surprising twist, Bernardo Silva is heading toward the Santiago Bernabéu. According to several Spanish media outlets, talks between the two parties have reached an advanced stage. A two-year contract, with an option for a third season, is currently being finalized.
Real Madrid’s Major Transfer Coup
Real Madrid could pull off one of the biggest bargains of the transfer window by signing the former Monaco star on a free transfer. Silva had long been a priority target for Barcelona, but Los Blancos now appear to have won the race. A final agreement could be reached within the coming days.
Bernardo Silva would also reunite with familiar faces in Madrid. He is expected to play under fellow Portuguese coach José Mourinho, who was officially appointed as Real Madrid manager on Thursday. Silva will also link up again with Kylian Mbappé, with whom he shared a close relationship during their time together at AS Monaco.
If completed, the deal would represent a significant statement of intent from Real Madrid ahead of the new season, while leaving Barcelona frustrated after years of interest in the Portuguese playmaker.
