Ligue 1 is entering a new era of transparency. This Friday, during the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Toulouse, an unprecedented system will be tested: referees will be equipped with microphones.
The referee will address the 50,000 spectators at the Parc des Princes to justify his decisions. For the first time in the league, officials will wear a microphone to explain their calls live, particularly during VAR interventions.
Enhanced transparency in refereeing decisions
Fans at the Parc des Princes, as well as television viewers, will be able to hear the referee’s explanations after each controversial action.
For now, this is only a trial. This highly anticipated experiment aims to make refereeing more understandable and bring decisions closer to the public. Already used in certain competitions, this practice could be expanded across Ligue 1 if feedback is positive.
A major development that could permanently transform the perception of refereeing in France.
