PSG vs Bayern: Tensions flare after Musiala’s injury and Donnarumma’s controversial challenge
The PSG–Bayern Munich quarter-final at the Club World Cup (2–0) left more than just a scoreline. Jamal Musiala suffered a fractured fibula after a heavy collision with Gianluigi Donnarumma late in the first half. The German midfielder is now ruled out for at least four months.
While some deemed the PSG goalkeeper’s tackle legal, Bayern Munich were quick to express their frustration.
Neuer’s frustration
German captain Manuel Neuer didn’t hold back: “That move was unnecessary. He accepted the risk of injuring someone.” Neuer also criticized Donnarumma for not immediately checking on Musiala post-match.
Bayern hits back
Sporting director Max Eberl echoed the sentiment, saying: “When you jump at 100 kg onto a leg in full sprint, you’re taking a huge risk. He may not have done it on purpose, but he certainly didn’t show enough care.”
Coach Vincent Kompany took a more balanced view: “These things happen. It was an accident, just before halftime. We were unlucky.”
PSG responded with a short message wishing Musiala a speedy recovery. Defender Achraf Hakimi also voiced his support via DAZN: “It’s a serious injury. I hope he recovers well.”
The incident casts a shadow over Paris’s qualification and has left a bitter taste on the Bayern side.
