This Thursday, FC Barcelona officially confirmed the extension of Pau Cubarsi’s contract. The young Spanish central defender has signed a new deal with his boyhood club, tying him to Barça until 2029.

Barcelona continues to secure its young stars. After Pedri, Gavi, and Ronald Araujo, and with Lamine Yamal’s extension expected in the coming weeks, Pau Cubarsi has now also renewed. However, his release clause will be lower than that of his teammates.

Barcelona typically sets release clauses of 1 billion euros for its new contracts, but for Cubarsi, it stands at “only” 500 million euros, according to Sport. The club believes that this amount is sufficient to deter any potential suitors.

No Inflation in the Clause

At just 18 years old, Pau Cubarsi had an impressive season with 23 appearances in La Liga and is now seen as a key player in Barça’s future defense. Following this extension, he is committed to the club until June 2029.

In the club’s statement, it was noted that “FC Barcelona and Pau Cubarsi have reached an agreement to extend his contract, which is now valid until June 2029.”

When his contract was first extended in May, his release clause was also set at 500 million euros. So, there has been no increase this time around.
