Manchester United implements a drastic cost-cutting measure: the staff canteen is shut down.

While the club pays its stars millions of euros each month, Manchester United has decided to remove a key benefit for its regular employees. In an effort to cut expenses, Jim Ratcliffe, owner of Ineos and majority shareholder of the club, has reportedly decided to close the staff canteen at Old Trafford, according to The Guardian.

Until now, employees received free meals, which will now be replaced by fruit. At the Carrington training center, staff will only be provided with soup and bread, while players will continue to enjoy full meals.

This move is part of a broader cost-cutting strategy after the club recorded losses of €362 million over the past three years. Additionally, between 150 and 200 layoffs are expected.

Ratcliffe had already halted an annual €48,200 donation to a charity supporting former players and those in need. Meanwhile, Manchester United recently spent €17.5 million to sack Erik Ten Hag and his coaching staff last October.
