Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta suffered a terrifying collision with Millwall’s goalkeeper during their FA Cup match (3-1 win for Palace) and was rushed to the hospital on Saturday afternoon.
Fortunately, the injury wasn’t as severe as initially feared. Mateta underwent surgery on his left ear, requiring 25 stitches, though the impact could have led to a much more serious outcome.
Discharged from the hospital later in the evening, Mateta will need several days of rest, with coach Oliver Glasner already confirming his absence for the match against Ipswich on March 8.
