The announcement marks a historic change for the club, as Old Trafford, the Red Devils’ iconic home since 1910, will no longer be used. While the club has not confirmed its fate, speculation suggests a possible demolition.

A New Era, But Farewell to Old Trafford?

Club co-owner Jim Ratcliffe addressed the project: “Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for 115 years, but it has fallen behind the world’s top sporting venues. By building next to the existing site, we will preserve the essence of Old Trafford while creating a cutting-edge stadium that transforms the fan experience, just steps away from our historic home.”

A Project Endorsed by Sir Alex Ferguson

The futuristic stadium is part of the UK government’s economic growth initiative, aiming to create:

  • 92,000 jobs
  • 17,000 new homes
  • 1.8 million visitors per year
  • €8.7 million in annual revenue for the country’s economy

Club legend Sir Alex Ferguson, manager from 1986 to 2013, also voiced his support:
“Manchester United must always strive for excellence in everything it does, both on and off the pitch—including the stadium. Old Trafford holds so many special memories for me, but we must be bold and seize this opportunity to build a new home for the future, where new history can be written.”
