Club co-owner Jim Ratcliffe addressed the project: “Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for 115 years, but it has fallen behind the world’s top sporting venues. Club legend Sir Alex Ferguson, manager from 1986 to 2013, also voiced his support:
“Manchester United must always strive for excellence in everything it does, both on and off the pitch—including the stadium. Old Trafford holds so many special memories for me, but we must be bold and seize this opportunity to build a new home for the future, where new history can be written.”
