Back with the French national team, Kylian Mbappé spoke on TF1, reflecting on his return and the future of Les Bleus after the 2026 World Cup.

Mbappé paid tribute to Didier Deschamps, who will leave his role after the tournament. “I’ve only ever known him as a coach. Losing someone like Didier Deschamps is a huge loss. He brought France back to the top after a difficult period. He wants to finish on the best possible note in 2026, and that’s what the whole squad wants too.”

Zidane? “It’s Not My Role”

Looking beyond 2026, the name of Zinédine Zidane naturally came up. When asked about the possibility of Zidane succeeding Deschamps, Mbappé remained diplomatic: “Everyone knows there’s a name circulating, but it’s not up to me. That’s for president Philippe Diallo to decide.”

However, he didn’t hide his admiration for the French legend:
“Zidane has made history with France and will always have a special place in the hearts of French fans. If Zidane comes in, it would be a pleasure, but it’s not my decision.”

A clear message: Mbappé is open to the idea and would be more than motivated to write a new chapter under Zidane’s leadership.
