Olivier Giroud is on the verge of a sensational return to Ligue 1. The former Montpellier and Arsenal striker is set to join Lille.
At 38, the World Cup winner is preparing to leave Los Angeles FC and sign with LOSC. According to L’Équipe, the former France international began the process of terminating his MLS contract on Thursday after giving his green light to Lille.
Taking a pay cut—but for a reason
Drawn by the club’s project, Giroud is willing to accept a lower salary than the €3 million per year he was earning in the U.S. However, he’ll benefit from France’s impatriate tax status, which offers financial advantages for returning nationals.
Barring a last-minute twist, Giroud will be wearing the Lille shirt next season—a major experience boost for the northern club.
