Barcelona’s hopes of landing Nico Williams this summer are starting to fade. According to Mundo Deportivo, the transfer of the 22-year-old Athletic Bilbao winger is now at serious risk.
A potential reunion between Nico and Lamine Yamal is far from a done deal. Barça were ready to trigger his €58 million release clause, and a verbal agreement on a six-year contract had already been reached with the Spanish international. But talks have suddenly hit a wall.
Deal Not Dead… But Definitely Shaky
The reason? The player’s agent is demanding firm guarantees that Nico will be properly registered with La Liga — a precaution after past cases like Dani Olmo or Pau Víctor, whose moves were blocked due to wage cap restrictions.
Barcelona considers the demand excessive, especially since it was never mentioned earlier in negotiations. The club’s leadership is reportedly growing frustrated and could walk away if Nico’s camp doesn’t ease their stance.
The deal isn’t off the table just yet, but it’s clearly hanging by a thread.
