According to The Sunday Times, a few careless remarks from PSG staff may have fired up Chelsea just hours before the Club World Cup final. The result? A brutal 3–0 defeat and a trophy slipping through Paris’ fingers.
PSG looked flat, uninspired, and out of gas. But did they lose the match before it even kicked off? During a pre-final dinner hosted by FIFA, several PSG employees were reportedly overheard discussing how the trophy would be transported—as if victory was already in the bag.
Too much confidence from PSG?
Overconfident? Possibly. But Chelsea staff at the event took note—and quickly told head coach Enzo Maresca. The Italian manager didn’t waste the opportunity. He used it to fire up his team in the pre-match talk. And it worked. “A lot of people were talking badly about us,” said Malo Gusto post-match. “Everyone was saying crap about us this season,” added Cole Palmer, who bagged two goals and an assist.
It was unexpected motivation—but deadly effective. Chelsea dominated from start to finish, dismantling PSG with intensity and hunger.
Luis Enrique had warned this would be a real test. What no one predicted was that a few cocky dinner-table comments might become Chelsea’s secret weapon.
