José Mourinho has hit a jaw-dropping milestone: he has earned over €100 million in severance payments throughout his illustrious career.

The so-called ‘Special One’ has once again found himself out of a job, this time after Fenerbahçe terminated his contract amid a storm of chaos and controversy. But Mourinho likely isn’t shedding any tears, as he just added another €15 million to his bank account for being sacked before the end of his tenure.

This latest payout is impressive, but it’s far from the best he’s received. Back in 2007, Chelsea fired him with a hefty €20.9 million check. Fast forward to 2013, and Real Madrid followed suit with a €19.7 million severance. Chelsea would again part ways with him in 2015, this time with a €9.6 million payout. It’s clear that Mourinho has mastered the art of negotiating golden exits from clubs.

€108 Million in Severance Payments

As we continue to tally his earnings, it becomes evident just how lucrative his career has been. In 2018, Manchester United handed him €22 million, while Tottenham contributed €17.4 million to his severance in 2021. Most recently, AS Roma paid him €3.5 million to end their relationship in 2024. When you add it all up, Mourinho’s severance payments surpass an astonishing €108 million.

For some, this figure may seem outrageous, but for Mourinho, it’s simply a remarkable business move. The ‘Special One’ has carved out a niche for himself in the world of football where leaving a club often pays better than staying. It’s a unique approach that keeps him in the spotlight, even when he’s not on the sidelines.
