Kylian Mbappé is skipping the Ballon d’Or ceremony once again, marking a second consecutive year of absence alongside Real Madrid. The club has opted out of the event held at the Théâtre du Châtelet, fueled by disappointment from last year.
Real Madrid’s decision stems from last year’s edition, where they canceled their attendance after learning Rodri would lift the trophy instead of Vinicius. The bitterness still lingers, leading them to stay home this year.
Mbappé, recently arriving in Spain, confirmed he won’t be attending either. After a match against Marseille, he stated, “I’ll watch the ceremony on TV, hoping Dembélé wins,” showing support for his teammate.
To Win the Ballon d’Or, You Must Win Titles
The French captain acknowledged that he and his Madrid teammates—Bellingham, Vinicius, and himself—are paying the price for a title-less season: finishing second in La Liga, reaching the Champions League quarter-finals, and being runners-up in the Copa del Rey.
He emphasized, “To win, you need to win titles. I must help my club lift trophies, and then we’ll see about the Ballon d’Or,” highlighting his commitment to success with Real Madrid.
