Lille: Bruno Genesio takes everything upon himself after the European fiasco but also points fingers at his players who collapsed.

Nightmare evening for LOSC. Defeated at home by PAOK Thessaloniki (3-4) in the Europa League, the Lillois fell apart after a catastrophic first half. And Bruno Genesio did not look for excuses: the coach directly held himself accountable.

“I am disappointed and frustrated. If I am angry, it is with myself,” the coach acknowledged on Canal+. “Big disillusionment. I blame myself, my choices were not good tonight. There is a very important personal reassessment, and afterwards we will take the time to analyze the match more calmly. We had a first half unworthy of a team that wants to be competitive.”

“There are fundamentals and values to respect in high-level football. Tonight we squandered our values in the first half, those of football and high-level sport, which are humility, commitment, motivation, and aggression.”

“I will learn lessons from this.”

Genesio also criticized the attitude of his players, lamenting a total lack of fighting spirit. “Football is also a sport of duels; you have to win balls to be able to play football. In the first half, we did none of that.”

“But once again, the one who makes the team is me, the one who makes the game plan is me, the one who makes the tactical choices is me, so the first to blame is me, I will learn lessons for the future.”

Despite this setback, Lille remains in a position to bounce back. Eleventh in their group after three matchdays, the Dogues will try to get back on track this Sunday in Ligue 1 against Metz.
