Lamine Yamal has been dealing with a groin injury that has kept him off the pitch for several weeks and causes him discomfort while playing. Is surgery on the horizon?
Amid pain, criticism following the Clasico, and a slowed pace, the 17-year-old had to weigh the pros and cons: surgery or no surgery? Verdict from Barça: no scalpel, thank you. The pubis remains as it is.
According to SPORT, Yamal knows he is not at 100%, but he refuses any surgery just as others refuse spinach. Instead, he is focusing on rest, treatment, massages, and a daily check-in with the medical staff. Barça is monitoring this situation closely, and the young talent has even consulted external specialists to ensure his pubis isn’t hiding any surprises.
Barça hopes it doesn’t worsen
Lluís Puig explains for Sport that this injury is complex to treat: “The treatment is multifactorial and depends on many factors. It will therefore be necessary to observe if he suffers from a pelvic deformity, whether he has a more anterior or posterior ilium, if he has shortened hamstrings, if he has weaker deep abdominal muscles, or if he has a lot of tension in the adductor area and will need to do more eccentric work.”
The result: he trains, keeps pace with the group, but in eco mode to avoid blowing up in a full sprint. Despite his issues, Yamal remains involved, serious… and always indispensable. In short: he’s in pain, but he plays. The club is keeping its fingers crossed, and so is he.
