Marseille fans were starting to dream of an unbelievable winter signing: Antoine Griezmann. But the French star has now delivered a firm response about his future.
Rumours have been swirling around Marseille’s ambitious winter mercato. Some observers, including Romain Haering from Le Phocéen — believe OM should target an experienced leader capable of bringing creativity and personality to the squad. And for many, Antoine Griezmann fits that profile perfectly, especially as he’s been getting less playing time at Atlético Madrid this season.
But while the idea sparked excitement among Marseille supporters, Griezmann himself has put an end to the speculation.
OM dream big, but Griezmann shuts the door
Speaking to AS, the French international made his intentions crystal clear. Recently extended until 2027, Griezmann says he is fully committed to Atlético Madrid and feels great at the club. MLS remains a long-term goal, but certainly not for now.
For some pundits, OM could have attempted an 18-month deal before a future move to MLS. But Griezmann’s declarations leave no room for doubt.
“Why did I extend? Because I want more.”
The World Cup winner didn’t mince words: “Why did I renew? Because I want more. I still have a lot of minutes ahead of me, I still have the energy and the mentality to play and be an important player for the club. I know I have to prove it to everyone, and I want to be even more important. Then, in a few years, we’ll see about titles or legend status.”
As for the constant rumours around him, Griezmann is unbothered:
“Do the rumours hurt me? No. People have always talked about me, since the first day I arrived until the last day I’ll leave. But as I’ve said, I feel very good here. Everyone knows MLS is my dream, my goal, but I still have a contract here. I want to extend it and remain important.”
