Real Madrid endured a difficult evening against Manchester City (1–2), and one truth became impossible to ignore: without Kylian Mbappé, this Real is not the same team. Sidelined with a knee issue, the French star missed the Champions League clash… and Xabi Alonso did not try to hide it.
Real Madrid: Xabi Alonso’s shocking admission without Mbappé. “When Mbappé is not on the pitch, his absence is felt,” acknowledged the Madrid coach, almost fatalistic in front of the media. Alonso admitted it clearly: Real had chances, but without their killer in front, the second goal never came.
Mbappé’s absence exposes Real Madrid’s growing dependence
Even more worrying, the coach remained vague about the Frenchman’s return. “Too early to say if he’ll be ready on Sunday… we’ll see day by day. Today, he wasn’t fit: if he could have played, he would have played,” Alonso revealed.
After PSG, Real becomes Mbappé-dependent — a telling admission. Without him, the machine grinds dangerously, just like PSG before him, when Mbappé attracted all the attention and scored all the goals. Paris managed to recover with a new philosophy that Xabi Alonso hoped to install in Madrid. For now, reality is far from that vision.
Next test: a trip to Alavés on Sunday. And all of Madrid holds its breath.
