Is It Over for Paul Pogba?

Doubt is seriously settling in around Paul Pogba. Once again sidelined last weekend in Marseille, the AS Monaco midfielder will also miss the Coupe de France round of 32 away at Auxerre on Sunday. The reason: a left calf that still isn’t responding.

Is this the end of the dream for Pogba? Monaco are worried… and it’s another blow for a player already slowed by two difficult years. At a press conference, his coach Sébastien Pocognoli did not hide the player’s sadness, while underlining his mental strength and his desire to make his mark at Monaco.

Growing Concern Around Pogba’s Future

“Paul will be absent,” the Belgian announced at the press conference. “Obviously, an injured player is affected, a bit saddened not to be able to be on the pitch. Ambitious players always want to be on the field, to train and to give to the team. And Paul is like that. He is ambitious, he is hungry to give to AS Monaco. But he has great strength of character. Just coming back from where he was is already quite spectacular. Now, I can’t project myself into the future. In any case, he is working. We are here to support him, whatever the situation. And that will continue throughout the season.”

But behind the reassuring words, concern is growing. Since returning to competition in November, Pogba has yet to start a single match. Three appearances, no starts, and a physical condition that is slow to come around. At 32, time is working against him. Monaco continue to offer their support, but a question is beginning to circulate behind the scenes and among supporters alike: can Paul Pogba truly become a key player again… or are we witnessing the final chapters of his career at the highest level?
