Eden Hazard has traded quick stepovers for child car seats. Two and a half years after hanging up his boots — right next to his Real Madrid memories and a few legendary solo runs — the former Belgian magician is enjoying a very active retirement, especially when it comes to family logistics.
Now settled in Spain instead of returning to Belgium, the former star fully embraces his sunny, laid-back lifestyle. “I made this decision for my family, my children, the climate and the food. Life goes by so fast, especially in football. Yesterday I was 19 and today I’m 35. You have to enjoy it — not only in football, but in everything,” he explained to The Guardian. Translation: less pressure, more paella.
A Busy Family Life After Football
His new role? Multitasking, hands on the wheel. “I’m the father of five children. Right now, I’m more of a taxi driver than a footballer, but I’m happy with that.” Think Uber Kids, Ballon d’Or potential edition — thankfully without passenger ratings.
Retirement, however, doesn’t mean a short memory. Hazard also revisited his 2018 World Cup memories — with one last playful jab included. “Today people say we were a better team than France, and that makes me proud.” Yes, even with a semifinal lost to a header from Umtiti. The bitterness, apparently, keeps very well — even in the sun.
In short, Eden Hazard may have left professional football, but not his punchlines. And his career change seems successful: fewer dribbles, more school runs — same cardio, different field.
