Appearing Sunday evening on the Canal Football Club set, Paris FC goalkeeper Kevin Trapp spoke about the circumstances surrounding the suspension of Stéphane Gilli, the club’s head coach, who has since been replaced by Antoine Kombouaré.
Earlier that day, Paris FC officially confirmed Gilli’s departure, immediately appointing Kombouaré as his successor. The 51-year-old manager, who was coming off six consecutive disappointing results — including a frustrating 1-1 draw away at Toulouse FC — did not survive this negative run.
Inside the Locker Room Announcement
Later in the evening, Kevin Trapp, now Gilli’s former goalkeeper, revealed behind-the-scenes details of the decision during the television show.
“The president spoke first to announce Stéphane Gilli’s departure. Yes, we learned the news after the match (against TFC) in the locker room. The coach then said a few words. It’s a shame, it’s unfortunate. But that’s how it happened after the match,” Trapp explained.
According to several sources, Stéphane Gilli had been informed several days earlier. He therefore coached his final match knowing he would not remain in charge.
