Arda Güler scored a spectacular goal during Real Madrid’s 4–1 victory against Elche CF this Saturday in La Liga. Late in the match, the Turkish attacking midfielder attempted a bold shot from his own half after noticing goalkeeper Matías Dituro positioned far off his line.
Arda Güler made history with Real Madrid as his strike from nearly 68 meters ended up in the back of the net, sparking a standing ovation from the Santiago Bernabéu crowd.
A Record-Equalling Long-Range Strike in La Liga
Measured at 68 meters, Güler’s goal matches the record for the longest-distance goal ever scored in La Liga. The record had previously been set by Antonio José for CD Numancia against Sevilla FC in 2004.
It is also the first time since 1995 that a Real Madrid player has scored in the league from his own half, following Agustín Lasa’s 58-meter strike against Sevilla FC that year.
