Just a few weeks ago, a contract extension seemed close for Ibrahima Konaté at Liverpool. However, the French defender has reportedly decided to leave the club when his current deal expires.
A huge blow for Liverpool, Konaté is set to walk away without generating any transfer fee for the Reds. Similar to Kylian Mbappé’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool would lose one of its key players for free. According to TalkSport, negotiations have now ended, and despite advanced discussions and optimism earlier this year, no final agreement was reached.
Liverpool Set to Lose a Defensive Leader
The French international is therefore expected to leave as a free agent, a particularly unfavorable outcome for Liverpool, who risk losing one of their defensive cornerstones without receiving any compensation.
This situation is likely to attract interest from Europe’s biggest clubs. At just 27 years old, Konaté remains one of the most highly rated central defenders on the market and could quickly become one of the most sought-after opportunities of the summer transfer window.
His next destination remains unknown for now. One thing appears certain, however: the story between Ibrahima Konaté and Liverpool is coming to an end.
