“Find Problems, Go Ahead!”: France Strike Hard, Deschamps Keeps Expectations in Check

France made a strong statement, but Didier Deschamps is keeping his feet firmly on the ground. After Les Bleus’ convincing 3-0 win over Sweden on Tuesday in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, the France coach praised his players’ performance without getting carried away.

Back on the bench after the death of his mother, Didier Deschamps experienced a particularly emotional evening. His players also paid him a touching tribute after the opening goal, coming over to embrace him during the celebration. It was a powerful moment in a match France controlled almost perfectly.

Deschamps Proud but Still Demanding After France Win

Speaking to M6, the France coach did not hide his pride. “What did I feel tonight? A lot of pride. We are on a mission. Me too, with them,” Deschamps said after France secured qualification. But the man in charge of Les Bleus knows that nothing is ever easy at a World Cup. “Until our match, we saw some very complicated, very difficult round-of-32 games. Ours was not simple either, but we had some margin, even if we could have been more clinical in the first half,” he explained.

Deschamps therefore wants to enjoy the moment, but only briefly. “We have to appreciate it, because we know we have another match in four days. But that is what we are here for, the players are here for that. One step taken. Some will say it was logical, but we still have to appreciate it. We feel a lot of pride, but it is up to us to stay focused,” the coach continued.

In his press conference, the former Juventus coach also made sure to cool the excitement around his team. “There are always things to improve. Always. Find problems, go ahead! Everything is not perfect, everything is not rosy. We are only in the last 16. We have to be able to do it again. There are small adjustments to make,” he warned. The message is clear: France are moving forward, France are impressing, but France have not won anything yet. After this convincing victory over Sweden, Les Bleus must quickly turn their attention to what comes next, with a last-16 match to prepare and one clear mission still ahead: chasing a third star.
