Michael Olise once again put on a show for France. Against Sweden (3-0) on Tuesday in the last 32 of the 2026 World Cup, the Bayern Munich player delivered a huge performance, combining assists, defensive work and one spectacular piece of skill.
With two assists to his name, Michael Olise left a real mark: Mike is crazy! Jean-Philippe Mateta did not hide his admiration after the match. “In this game, he impressed me,” the French striker said, before praising his influence: “He did what he knows how to do: provide assists. And he helped the team defensively too, so that is the most important thing.”
Olise’s Spectacular Attempt Stuns France
Kylian Mbappé was also amazed, especially by the incredible action in the 35th minute. From a very high ball, Olise attempted a stunning acrobatic volley, only to be denied by the post. It was the kind of move that could have become one of the goals of the tournament. “I thought he was going to control it with his chest because he did not look at the goal at all before. It was a fantastic move. Unfortunately, he was unlucky. But I think we go to the stadium to see moments like that,” Mbappé said in the mixed zone.
Even without that goal, Olise had a huge impact on France’s win. His two assists for Bradley Barcola and Kylian Mbappé confirmed his central role in the attacking play of Les Bleus.

With already five assists at this World Cup, Michael Olise is producing a rare performance. No French player had reached such a total in a single edition since Raymond Kopa in 1958, when the first French Ballon d’Or winner finished with eight assists. Can Olise chase down that legendary record? Given his current level, anything seems possible. One thing is certain: in this France team, the attacking midfielder has become far more than just a creator. He is now one of the main men of France’s World Cup campaign.
