Sweden left the World Cup with one certainty: this France team is frightening. Beaten convincingly by Les Bleus (3-0) on Tuesday in the round of 16, the Swedes openly acknowledged France’s superiority.
Sweden admits it: there was nothing they could do to beat France. Les Bleus are extremely strong, and they proved it again in this last-16 match. Viktor Gyökeres, despite being used to big occasions, was impressed by the collective power of Didier Deschamps’ players. The Arsenal striker did not look for excuses after Sweden’s elimination.
Sweden Full of Praise for France
“Honestly, they are the best team we have played so far, and one of the best teams in the tournament. You can feel that the players are really connected,” Gyökeres said in the mixed zone. The Swedish striker even believes Les Bleus can go very far in this World Cup. “In my opinion, if they manage to keep that defensive solidity, they can go very, very far in the competition,” he added.
Even Sweden coach Graham Potter tipped his hat to the France team. “We came up against an extremely strong opponent. By far, the best team won,” the Swedish coach admitted. Potter went even further, sending a warning to France’s future opponents: “Of course, football remains football and they can lose a match. But I wish France’s next opponents good luck!”
After this display, the message from the Swedish camp is clear: France impresses, France worries opponents, and nobody really wants to cross paths with Les Bleus in this World Cup.
