Jeff Bezos Set for Football Move? Billionaire Approached to Invest in Liverpool

After Amazon, space exploration and the media industry, Jeff Bezos could now turn his attention to football. The American billionaire has reportedly been approached to join a consortium currently holding talks with Fenway Sports Group over the purchase of a stake in Liverpool.

Billionaire investment is not limited to Ligue 1. According to Sky News, Bezos has been contacted about investing in the English club. The group behind the approach is led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. Discussions are reportedly focused on a minority stake of up to 30%, with Liverpool valued at no less than $6 billion. However, no final agreement has yet been reached.

Could Bezos Become a Major Figure at Liverpool?

With the Amazon founder’s fortune estimated at around $257 billion, his involvement would dramatically increase the project’s financial power. Bezos has previously considered several investments in American sport, particularly in the NFL, but has never completed a deal. His potential participation in the consortium led by Bhatia therefore remains highly uncertain.

Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owner since 2010, is not believed to be seeking an immediate sale of control of the club. Instead, the aim would be to bring in a new strategic investor, similar to Dynasty Equity’s purchase of a stake in 2023. Bezos’ possible arrival would further underline the growing appetite of the world’s wealthiest investors for European football, following PIF’s takeover of Newcastle, Todd Boehly’s purchase of Chelsea and Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in Manchester United.

The trend also extends beyond the Premier League, with the Arnault family recently investing in Paris FC and Free founder Xavier Niel purchasing Créteil. With his immense fortune, Bezos would immediately rank among the most powerful private investors in football. For now, he has only been approached and could still decide against the move, but the possibility of the billionaire arriving at Anfield is already enough to shake up the market.
