Kylian Mbappé has spoken out after the World Cup in a lengthy letter addressed to the French people. The France captain reflected emotionally on Les Bleus’ journey, the disappointment of failing to win the trophy and the support the team received throughout the tournament.
He took his time before speaking publicly. More than a week after the end of the World Cup, Mbappé opened up about his disappointment in a long message. France were eliminated in the semi-finals, but the Real Madrid forward refused to complain.
Mbappé Shares His Pride and Pain
“A month of emotion. Of pushing ourselves beyond our limits. Of pride in wearing the colours of France,” he wrote, describing the campaign as an “incredible story” shared with the supporters. However, he did not hide his pain: “We are not bringing home a team trophy. It hurts, and it will continue to hurt for a while. The France captain also praised his teammates, insisting that his individual honour belonged to the entire squad. He thanked Didier Deschamps, the coaching staff and everyone working behind the scenes, while recalling his own journey from dreaming of playing in one World Cup to appearing in three, winning one and captaining his country in the latest tournament.
Mbappé also paid tribute to the supporters who stayed up late, gathered in homes, bars and stadiums, and continued to back the team during its most difficult moments. He ended his deeply personal letter by looking to the future: “This World Cup is over, but the story continues. We are not finished playing together.”
