Trailing 2-0 at Roazhon Park, Paris needed a major reaction. Luis Enrique therefore decided to take off Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia and bring on Ferran Torres and Mika Godts. The move paid off, with the Spaniard scoring twice to help PSG rescue a draw.

Asked after the match about Dembélé’s half-time substitution, Luis Enrique made it clear that no player enjoys special status. “Paris Saint-Germain have won nothing, nothing. If you think about what you have won, you are not going to win anything!” he told Ligue 1+. He added that there is “no credit” from previous performances and that every player must prove every day, in every match and every training session, that he is ready. The message also clearly applies to Kvaratskhelia, who, like Dembélé, did not return after the break.
The contrast with their replacements was striking. Torres scored both PSG goals, while the substitutes gave Paris much more attacking impact. Luis Enrique welcomed the competition within his squad, saying it was important to see so many players ready to contribute. His philosophy is clear: players cannot afford to settle into a comfort zone after past success, and even the biggest names must continually earn their place.
PSG’s summer transfer business has given Luis Enrique even more options, and Torres immediately showed why competition will be fierce. Making his Ligue 1 debut for Paris, the former Barcelona forward came on at half-time and scored twice. The warning from Rennes is therefore unmistakable: status guarantees nothing at PSG, and Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia and the rest of the team’s established stars will have to convince Luis Enrique week after week.
