The deal did not take long to materialize. Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Djylian N’Guessan, the 18-year-old striker from AS Saint-Étienne. It is a move focused on the future, as the French youngster will not join the Reds until the summer of 2027.
Liverpool are certainly developing a strong French influence. After Hugo Ekitike last summer and Bradley Barcola this summer, another French player is set to join the Reds in the coming months. According to Fabrizio Romano, an agreement has now been finalized between all parties. Liverpool have reached a deal with ASSE as well as personal terms with N’Guessan, and the English club have received permission to organize his medical.
N’Guessan to Stay at Saint-Étienne Until 2027
One unusual aspect of the transfer is that Djylian N’Guessan will not leave Saint-Étienne immediately. The striker is expected to remain with Les Verts this season before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2027. The arrangement will allow the young Frenchman to continue his development and gain valuable experience before moving to England.
At just 18 years old, N’Guessan has already made 13 appearances and scored one goal for Saint-Étienne’s first team. Liverpool have therefore moved quickly to secure his potential, with his ASSE contract due to expire in June 2027. The Reds are continuing their strategy of recruiting promising young talents who could become part of the club’s plans in the medium term, following a similar deal for Lucca Brughmans.
For Saint-Étienne, N’Guessan’s future departure is now effectively confirmed, but Les Verts should still be able to rely on their young striker for another season before he makes his permanent move to Liverpool.
