A new era is taking shape in Nantes. According to L’Équipe, Waldemar Kita and Phenix Sports Invest have reached an agreement over the sale of FC Nantes. The group brings together several French, Portuguese and Luxembourg investors and is represented by Paulo Tavares, a former players’ agent who had already been mentioned among the potential buyers of Les Canaris.
A Deal Worth Around €100 Million
The two parties have reportedly agreed on a valuation of approximately €100 million excluding bonuses, a significant amount for a club currently playing in Ligue 2. Phenix Sports Invest intends to use the takeover to introduce a new development model aimed at restoring stability and sporting ambition, with the long-term objective of bringing FC Nantes back to the top flight of French football.
The agreement represents a major breakthrough after weeks of discussions and several offers considered by Waldemar Kita, but the sale has not yet been officially completed. The proposed takeover must first be presented to FC Nantes’ employee representatives and then reviewed by the DNCG, which will assess the financial strength of the project and the guarantees provided by the new investors.
If those final steps are approved, Waldemar Kita could soon bring an end to nearly 20 years at the helm of FC Nantes. The Franco-Polish businessman, who took over the club in 2007, would sell Les Canaris for around €100 million. For Nantes, the takeover would mark the beginning of a new chapter, with new owners and a completely redesigned project aimed at returning the club to the forefront of French football.
