The international break is turning into a nightmare for Olympique de Marseille. Already hit by several injuries to their internationals, OM saw Pierre-Emile Højbjerg forced off early while playing for Denmark on Sunday. The Marseille midfielder lasted just ten minutes before heading back to the dressing room.
The bad news keeps piling up for Marseille. After Amine Gouiri, Derek Cornelius and Himad Abdelli, another key member of the squad is now a concern: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.
Højbjerg forced off after just ten minutes
Starting and captaining Denmark against Wales in the Nations League, the 31-year-old midfielder quickly realised he would not be able to continue. In the 10th minute, Højbjerg was forced to leave the pitch. Early indications suggest a possible muscular injury, although the exact nature of the problem and the potential length of his absence have yet to be determined.
For OM, this latest setback comes at the worst possible time. Højbjerg plays a crucial role in Marseille’s midfield and losing him would be a major blow ahead of the return to club action. Marseille will now wait for medical tests and the player’s return before learning the full extent of the injury. With four players injured during this international break, OM’s treatment room is beginning to fill up seriously.
