Thibaut Courtois could be heading toward a full decade at Real Madrid. According to AS, the club is preparing to extend the Belgian goalkeeper’s contract until 2028, adding two more years to his current deal.
Courtois, 32, remains a cornerstone of the Madrid squad despite some speculation earlier this season. The club had shown interest in Espanyol’s Joan García, but ultimately reaffirmed their trust in Courtois as their undisputed No.1.
A rare long-term extension for a veteran
Currently tied to the club until 2026, Courtois is now in line for a three-year extension — a rare move for a player over 30, as Madrid typically avoids long contracts at that age. However, his level of performance and leadership continue to impress the club’s top brass.
If agreed, the new deal would keep Courtois at the Bernabéu until he’s 36. With 282 matches, 2 Champions League titles, and 3 La Liga trophies, he’s already cemented his legacy — and now has the chance to make it even greater.
