Ademola Lookman Criticized After Crucial Penalty Miss
It was a tough night for Ademola Lookman. A week after their 1-2 first-leg defeat, Atalanta Bergamo once again fell to Bruges (1-3) in the Champions League playoff second leg on Tuesday.
Despite scoring earlier in the game, Lookman (27 years old, 7 matches, 5 goals in UCL this season) had a golden opportunity to bring his team back into the contest. However, he missed a crucial penalty, preventing Atalanta from closing the gap.
After the match, head coach Gian Piero Gasperini did not hold back in his criticism:
“Lookman should never have taken that penalty. He is one of the worst penalty takers I have ever seen. Even in training, his conversion rate is very low, and he shoots terribly.”
Ouch! A harsh statement that could create tension between the player and his coach.
