Back at Santos, Neymar is going through one of the toughest periods of his career. Injuries, inconsistency, and a club fighting relegation — the Brazilian star is far from his former glory. And in Brazil, the criticism is harsh… very harsh.

Former World Cup champion Emerson Leão didn’t hold back when speaking about the ex-PSG forward. For him, Neymar is no longer an example. “Neymar is an example for no one. He had everything to mark his era. I once told him: ‘We will need you for the World Cup, take care of yourself.’ And that’s the one thing he never did.”

“He knows what to do… but his body won’t follow”

Leão laments a player with talent still intact, but whose body has given up. “He doesn’t have the same energy. He’s not prepared. Then come the injuries, the problems… In his head, he sees the action, but he can’t execute it anymore. He’s not the same. It’s useless now…”
