Franco Mastantuono could already be heading for the exit door at Real Madrid. Signed for €45 million last summer, the young Argentine has struggled to make an impact during his first season in Spain and has reportedly failed to convince the club’s decision-makers.
According to ESPN, River Plate are interested in bringing their former wonderkid back on loan. The Argentine club is closely monitoring the situation of the 18-year-old attacking midfielder and dreams of helping him revive his career in familiar surroundings.
River Plate Eye Loan Move
With just 23 La Liga appearances and one goal this season, Mastantuono has fallen well short of the expectations that surrounded his arrival in Madrid. His difficult campaign was also reflected in his omission from Argentina’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
The big question now is whether Real Madrid are willing to approve a temporary departure. The Spanish giants still believe in the player’s long-term potential, but a loan spell could be the ideal solution to help him regain confidence and secure regular playing time.
At only 18 years old, Mastantuono’s story at Real Madrid is far from over. However, a return to River Plate could prove to be the next important step in his development as he looks to fulfill the promise that made him one of South America’s most exciting talents.
