The saga surrounding the succession of Didier Deschamps as head coach of the French national team continues, but the French Football Federation now seems to favor a clear option regarding the timing.
Zinedine Zidane after Didier Deschamps? It is almost a given, but when? Questioned on Saturday, FFF president Philippe Diallo indicated that the idea of an early announcement is losing momentum.
A decision postponed to protect stability
Two scenarios had previously been considered: appointing the future head coach in the spring or waiting until after the World Cup. This line of thinking has evolved in recent weeks.
“I had mentioned two possible windows, in March-April or after the World Cup. Since the draw, I have continued my reflection and the trend is now clearly toward a decision after the competition. We must preserve the calm of the French team’s preparation, and then the time will come for the new head coach,” explained Philippe Diallo at the 2025 Winter Assembly.
