Dani Ceballos, the 29-year-old midfielder, will not be joining Olympique de Marseille despite initial expectations. An agreement appeared to be in place between Marseille and Real Madrid regarding a loan deal with an option to buy. However, at the last minute, Ceballos opted out, reigniting speculation about a potential return to his former club, Betis Sevilla, although the latter does not prioritize his signing at this time.
Reports indicate that the two clubs had finalized the terms of a loan deal, which would have added significant experience to Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield. Nevertheless, Ceballos hesitated about making the move to Marseille and ultimately chose to delay his decision. This indecision frustrated Marseille’s management, forcing them to terminate the negotiations altogether.
Ceballos’s Hesitation Disappoints Fans
While Betis Sevilla has been keen to bring Ceballos back for months, sources from COPE suggest that the Andalusian club is currently focused on pursuing other targets, specifically Antony from Manchester United. This has been corroborated by Fabrizio Romano, who noted that there have been no substantial discussions between Betis and Ceballos at this time.
Despite the breakdown of negotiations, Marseille remains vigilant about Ceballos’s situation. In a transfer market where developments can shift rapidly, the club’s management has not ruled out the possibility of revisiting the deal should the Spanish midfielder reconsider his stance. For now, however, the prospect of signing Ceballos is officially off the table.
