Before agreeing to join Atlético Madrid, Kang-in Lee reportedly had the chance to make a far more lucrative move. The Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder is said to have received a huge offer from Saudi Arabia but chose to remain in Europe and continue competing at the highest level.
The South Korean international is now expected to complete his move to Atlético Madrid. At 25, Kang-in Lee is set to leave PSG in a deal worth around €40 million, bringing an end to three mixed seasons in Paris, where he never managed to establish himself as a regular starter.
Kang-in Lee Chose Sporting Ambition Over Money
Before giving the green light to Atlético, the former Mallorca playmaker reportedly received an extraordinary proposal. According to Atlético Madrid journalist Rubén Uría, a Saudi Pro League club offered him a five-year contract worth €17 million net per season, meaning he could have earned a total of €85 million.
Despite the enormous financial package, Kang-in Lee reportedly rejected the offer. His decision reflects his determination to continue playing in one of Europe’s top leagues during the prime years of his career. Under Diego Simeone, he hopes to enjoy a more prominent role than he had at PSG, while the French champions are expected to secure a healthy profit on a player they signed in the summer of 2023. The official announcement of the transfer is now believed to be only a matter of time.
