Liverpool are reportedly considering an option as surprising as it is ambitious: signing Lionel Messi on a short-term loan during the MLS offseason in January.
Messi needs to compete at the highest level ahead of the World Cup, and it works out well as Liverpool are in need of reinforcements. The Argentine could therefore arrive on Merseyside for a few weeks.

The idea is considered credible by people close to the situation, as the North American calendar creates a window of availability for the Argentine star, according to World Soccer Talk.
The plan would allow Messi to stay competitive during the MLS break while giving Liverpool a prestigious boost at a key point in the season. Although the operation remains complex from a logistical and contractual standpoint, it is not viewed internally as unrealistic.
