With this result, Brazil remain 4th in the standings, two points behind surprise package Ecuador, who now sit second behind Argentina. The reigning world champions secured a narrow 1–0 win over Chile, thanks to a 16th-minute strike from Julián Álvarez.
Brazil can still book their ticket to the World Cup on Tuesday—with a must-win clash against Paraguay on the horizon.
