Manchester City have stepped up their pursuit of Rayan Cherki with a first offer of €22.5 million, but Olympique Lyonnais have rejected the bid, deeming it insufficient for their 21-year-old attacking midfielder.

Cherki—who impressed with a goal and an assist against Spain for France—has already agreed personal terms with City. However, OL are holding out for €40 million, despite a contractual clause stating that any rejected €22.5M bid would see Lyon owe €3 million in compensation to the player.

Unless there’s a sudden twist, Cherki seems set to join Pep Guardiola’s squad next season. The only question now is whether City will raise their offer to get the deal over the line.
