Diego Simeone isn’t hiding his frustration. After Atlético Madrid were thrashed 4–0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup opener, the Argentine coach took a subtle but sharp jab at PSG’s financial power.
“They just drop €70 million like it’s nothing…”
In a post-match press conference, Simeone highlighted the difference in resources: “PSG is a great team full of young talents. When Luis Enrique needed a left winger, they just pulled out €70 million to sign Kvaratskhelia in January.”
While acknowledging PSG’s ability to make the most of their squad, his message was clear: Atlético can’t compete with that kind of spending.
It was a bitter outburst, but also a telling sign of helplessness in the face of a dominant PSG—now looking like the clear favourites to win the tournament.
