Kylian Mbappé will not feature for Real Madrid this Sunday against Pachuca in Charlotte. The French star is still recovering from a severe bout of gastroenteritis and remains sidelined for the second matchday of the Club World Cup.
No Mbappé yet for Xabi Alonso
After a frustrating 1–1 draw against Al-Hilal, Madrid manager Xabi Alonso will once again be without his marquee summer signing. The squad still boasts big names — Courtois, Rüdiger, Modrić, Bellingham, Valverde, Tchouaméni, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo — as well as new arrivals Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen.
But no Mbappé. The forward was briefly hospitalized earlier this week due to illness and has not resumed training with the team. “Sunday is unlikely. We’re hoping he’ll be ready for the game against Salzburg,” said Alonso.
Real Madrid under pressure
After dropping points in their opening fixture, Los Blancos need a win to keep control of their Group B destiny. Missing their star striker makes the mission tougher, but the return of senior players could provide the boost needed.
Next match: June 27 vs RB Salzburg.
