John Textor isn’t done with football just yet. Despite a chaotic exit from Olympique Lyonnais and selling his shares in Crystal Palace, the American businessman is already plotting his next move — and this time, it’s in England.
Speaking on the White & Jordan podcast on talkSPORT, the 59-year-old Eagle Football boss confirmed his interest in Sheffield Wednesday, currently 12th in the Championship last season. “I much prefer Championship clubs. Sheffield Wednesday should be fighting for the title every year, but that’s not the case.”
Once a powerhouse with four English league titles (last in 1930), Wednesday now faces serious trouble. The club is under a transfer ban until 2027 due to repeated wage payment issues. Its current owner, Thai businessman Dejphon Chansiri, is reportedly asking for at least £150 million (€174m) to sell.
From OL to England: Same Ambitions
Despite being forced out at Lyon by new chairwoman Michele Kang, Textor remains bullish. He’s also sold his 43% stake in Crystal Palace to Jets owner Woody Johnson. But his passion for English football remains strong: “My kids are big Palace fans. My first match was against Stockport County… but English football has always fascinated me, in all its forms.”
